Looking for a fantastical story about pixies and magic? Check out this amazing series by Tara Maya (First Book Free!)

The first book is free in this series, so read it to discover a world of magic and adventure by the talented Tara Maya!

The Unfinished Song (Book 1): Initiate by Tara Maya

BLURB
DEADLY INITIATION

A DETERMINED GIRL...
Dindi can't do anything right, maybe because she spends more time dancing with pixies than doing her chores. Her clan hopes to marry her off and settle her down, but she dreams of becoming a Tavaedi, one of the powerful warrior-dancers whose secret magics are revealed only to those who pass a mysterious Test during the Initiation ceremony. The problem? No-one in Dindi's clan has ever passed the Test. Her grandmother died trying. But Dindi has a plan.

AN EXILED WARRIOR...
Kavio is the most powerful warrior-dancer in Faearth, but when he is exiled from the tribehold for a crime he didn't commit, he decides to shed his old life. If roving cannibals and hexers don't kill him first, this is his chance to escape the shadow of his father's wars and his mother's curse. But when he rescues a young Initiate girl, he finds himself drawn into as deadly a plot as any he left behind. He must decide whether to walk away or fight for her... assuming she would even accept the help of an exile.

EXCERPT
Blue-skinned rusalki grappled Dindi under the churning surface of the river. She could feel their claws dig into her arms. Their riverweed-like hair entangled her legs when she tried to kick back to the surface. She only managed to gulp a few breaths of air before they pulled her under again.

She hadn't appreciated how fast and deep the river was. On her second gasp for air, she saw that the current was already dragging her out of sight of the screaming girls on the bank. A whirlpool of froth and fae roiled between two large rocks in the middle of the river. The rusalka and her sisters tugged Dindi toward it. Other water fae joined the rusalki. Long snouted pookas, turtle-like kappas and hairy-armed gwyllions all swam around her, leading her to the whirlpool, where even more fae swirled in the whitewater.

"Join our circle, Dindi!" the fae voices gurgled under the water. "Dance with us forever!"

"No!" She kicked and swam and stole another gasp for air before they snagged her again. There were so many of them now, all pulling her down, all singing to the tune of the rushing river. She tried to shout, "Dispel!" but swallowed water instead. Her head hit a rock, disorienting her. She sank, this time sure she wouldn't be coming up again.

"Dispel!" It was a man's voice.

Strong arms encircled her and lifted her until her arms and head broke the surface. Her rescuer swam with her toward the shore. He overpowered the current, he shrugged aside the hands of the water faeries stroking his hair and arms. When he reached the shallows, he scooped Dindi into his arms and carried her the rest of the way to the grassy bank. He set her down gently.

She coughed out some water while he supported her back.

"Better?" he asked.

She nodded. He was young--only a few years older than she. The aura of confidence and competence he radiated made him seem older. Without knowing quite why, she was certain he was a Tavaedi.

"Good." He had a gorgeous smile. A wisp of his dark bangs dangled over one eye. He brushed his dripping hair back over his head.

Dindi's hand touched skin--he was not wearing any shirt. Both of them were sopping wet. On him, that meant trickles of water coursed over a bedrock of muscle. As for her, the thin white wrap clung transparently to her body like a wet leaf. She blushed.

"It might have been easier to swim if you had let go of that," he teased. He touched her hand, which was closed around something. "What were you holding onto so tightly that it mattered more than drowning?"

Z-5 Update

Zombie Games 5 (End Zone)

This is an update on Zombie Games, the final book in the series, which I desperately wanted to make available for October 31st. As much as I've tried to prepare the book for publication,  I'd be foolish to publish it tomorrow, just for the sake of making it available. I'm not completely happy with it, would like to make it longer, and revise some parts of the story I'm really not happy with. So, I'm changing the tentative publication day to November 15th (although I'm really hoping to have it ready by the end of next week). I will update this information next Thursday as I continue working on the last installment of the book. Again, it will be on sale for $.99 when it's released. Thanks for your understanding and I'm really sorry to those who are waiting patiently for the last book in the series. It's been a struggle to make it perfect, and that's what I am shooting for.... an ending that will be memorable.

Blood Bites - short vampire stories...

Three stories of vampires, just in time for Halloween! I have a short story called "Wicked" which I've never published before. It's related to my Night Roamer series and if you read it, you'll understand why.

This book is currently free on Smashwords.com and we are working to get it free on all other Ebook sites.

Hope you enjoy!

Also - I'm working on Zombie Games Five, and hope to have it available on October 31st for discounted price of $.99.

Thank You

I just really want to say thank you to all of my readers, and to all of the lovely reviews I've been getting. Reading all of your kind words inspire me to keep writing. I also encourage anyone who has a passion for books and writing, to give it a try. It takes a lot of patience and time, but the rewards can be amazing. Even if you just want to write a book and give it to your family as a gift, go for it! That's how I started. I wanted to create a zombie book for my kids, through Createspace.com (where you can publish your own paperback for free through Amazon). I then decided to try and sell it through Amazon Kindle, which Createspace.com encourages. I figured, why not? The worst thing that could happen is that people will not like it, but at least I gave it a shot. And I did. I offered Zombie Games (Origins) for $.99 (the lowest price that you can sell a new book). Then, I walked away from the computer for a couple of days, basically forgetting about it.

And that's when things changed.

When I checked back, not only did I have a few sales, but the reviews were unexpectedly great! I was shocked and couldn't believe that people actually liked my book. From that point is where my writing career took off. Now, I'm not rich and I haven't made the NY Times Bestseller List, but this fall I am quitting my day job, and writing full time. I feel blessed, and so very thankful that I have this opportunity. Not only have I met so many wonderful people but this is my dream job, and that's why I tell everyone who inspires to write- GO for it.Obviously, not everyone is going to have the same results, but you might. Heck, YOU might end up on the NY Times Bestseller List, and I really hope that you do. If I can be part of that journey, and an inspiration to you, I will be ecstatic for you! I support other authors 100% and really wish only the best.

If you have any questions about self-publishing with Amazon, sign up here for a free KDP account and you'll find all kinds of information. Also, check out the Community Discussion Boards. The authors there are also helpful.

Good luck and thanks again.

Vengeance

So, I released Vengeance last week at $.99 without my editor touching it yet. I did it because I wanted to keep my deadline for a special reader who sent me a very touching email. She has terminal cancer and wanted me to finish the book so she could read it on her Kindle before her time was up. I lost her email (as I was going to send her a free copy) and found that I must have deleted it in error (Dumb, dumb, dumb!). Anyway, I felt horrible, but fortunately, she sent me another email after I released Vengeance, thanking me for finishing the book. So, yes, there are errors and I'm sure I will get slack for it, but knowing that she is able to read it, that I could do this one small thing for Cynthia is all that matters. I'm truly honored.

Vengeance (Night Roamers-3) and Zombie Games-5 Updates

Okay, here are a couple of updates-

Vengeance (Night Roamers 3) should be available June 30th. Zombie Games Five should be available September 1st on Amazon, Barnesandnoble.com and other eBook sites.

Tangled Mess is becoming very challenging to write and I'm not exactly sure when this one will be finished.

Sorry for the delays. In the future I am going to try and only do one series at a time and finish before I release another unrelated book. It's just so hard for me as my brain is all over the place with ideas. Anyway, thanks for your patience and understanding! xoxo

Tangled Mess and Vengeance

I am a little behind in writing but hope to have both books published by July 2013.

Unfortunately, life doesn't always go the way as planned, especially with the school year coming to an end and my children's numerous spring activities. This fall I will be writing full-time and not working during the day (I'm quitting my day-job) so book releases will be much more accurate after that. Thanks so much for everyone's patience in the meantime!

Enchanted Secrets - free May 16 - May 18

So, I was trying to sell Enchanted Secrets and use the proceeds for National Missing Children's Day, which is May 25th. Unfortunately, I have only have 15 sales on that book equaling $5.25 in profits after Amazon's cut...not a very good collection since it's May 14th already. So, I'm going to try another approach and give it away free for three days. I know, it doesn't sound logical, but I'm hoping that in those three days my overall author/book rankings will increase and then after the promotion is over, people will start taking more notice of Enchanted Secrets. If anything, it might help my Zombie Games and Night Roamers sales and I can use some of those proceeds to make my goal of $625. I've already donated $25 and my editor, C. Pinard has donated her services on Enchanted Secrets, which was awesome. Just going to stay optimistic, say a little prayer, and see what happens.

Zombie Games Four Excerpt

I am having so much fun writing this book and can't wait to release it! Although it's still not quite finished, it will be available by April 12, 2013.

Here's an excerpt from the book, where Cassie finds herself in another dangerous situation.
__________________________________________________

“Just keep your mouth shut and I won’t hurt you,” whispered Dwayne, covering my mouth with his calloused hand as he pulled me into the darkness. Although he’d somehow removed my knife, he had no idea what he’d started. Weapon or not, there was no way I’d go down without a struggle. In fact, I’d purposely allowed him take me outside and away from the church, as I figured kicking someone's ass in a holy place had to be sacrilegious.
I nodded, trying to appear scared and as unthreatening as possible. The truth was, after everything I’d been through, I figured this would be a walk in the park. Plus, I needed a little sparring practice. I was getting soft.
He dragged me around the church and that's when he made his first mistake.
He released me.
I turned to face him. “What do you want?”
“Just to talk,” he said, but the look in his eyes said otherwise.
I snorted. “Oh, that’s how you get a girl to talk? You must have been quite the catch back in your hometown.”
“I was,” he said, moving closer. “Gals lined up to be with me.”
I smirked. “Lined up, huh? You must be referring to the showers at that prison you were incarcerated at.”
His face darkened and he grabbed me by the throat.
Crap.
“That’s not funny. Don’t joke about things like that,” he spat, his eyes bulging. “You have no idea what a man has to do to survive in a place like that. What he has to give up. No clue.”
My eyes were watering. I tried digging my fingernails into his hands but unfortunately, I’d bitten them down to the skin. I then tried to position myself so that I could ‘knee’ him between the legs, when he suddenly released me and took a step back.
I bent over to catch my breath. “Sorry,” I rasped.
“That's better. Apology accepted.”
“No,” I said straightening up. “Sorry that I underestimated you.”
Then, before he had a chance to respond, I spun my leg around and delivered a roundhouse kick to his chin, using as much force as I could. He fell backwards with a grunt and I smiled in satisfaction.
Good thing I hadn’t taken off my mountain boots.
“You bitch,” he growled, scrambling back up.
“Is that what they called you in prison?” I taunted as he launched at me. I ducked his attack, then turned and kicked him in the back of the leg, sending him into a prickly Evergreen bush.
“What’s going on out here?” hollered Henry, who stepped out of the darkness with his shotgun raised.
“He, um, started it,” I said, smiling sheepishly.
Dwayne stood up slowly, a grimace on his face. “Just wanted to talk is all. Had no idea she was such a crazy broad.”
“If you knew what was good for you,” muttered Henry. “You wouldn’t call Wild a broad and you’d stay away from her.”
I frowned. “Hey, I’m also not crazy.”
Henry ignored me. “Looks like you’ve overstayed your welcome, Dwayne. Now, you need to get your friend and high-tail it on out of here.”
He scowled. “I don’t think that’s your decision. Besides, this is a church. A place of God. He doesn’t turn anyone away.”
“Once you turn him away,” said Sister Theresa, stepping around the corner of the building. “There is only darkness.”
And an exit door with your name on it,” said Henry.
I just couldn’t resist with the gay jokes. “That' shouldn't be too difficult for him to find. Dwayne is no stranger to the 'exit door'.”
He shot me a look of death and I was relieved that Henry was the one holding the shotgun.
“I’m not sure what’s going on out here,” said Sister Theresa, her face solemn. “But this is a sacred church and we don’t condone any immoral behavior. Now, for the protection of the children and our other guests, I suggest that you, and your friend Travis, leave without giving us anymore trouble.”
“You people are all nuts,” said Dwayne, shaking his head. “I haven’t done anything but received a few lucky kicks from this crazy chick.”
“They were deliberate, not lucky,” I snapped, putting my hands on my hips. “And you were lucky that Henry saved your ass or I would have handed it back to you on a platter.”
“Right,” snorted Dwayne.
